"Special Okinawa Night Show with Junji Toubaru" hosted by our Honorary Entertainment Member -  Okinawa Dreamer - on Friday, March 6th and Saturday, March 7th at Satoya Restaurant. Okinawan Live Music Performer "Junji" happily guided the guests through an evening of so much FUN, Okinawan Style.

They are playing "Sanshin" (means "three strings") which is Okinawan unique musical instruments.

We are sure that everybody had enjoyed the night of Okinawa in Vegas.

11th Annual Japanese Speech Contest

3月7日土曜日、スプリングバレー高校にて第十一回日本語弁論大会が開かれました。

南ネバダ日本語教師会と在サンフランシスコ日本国領事館の共催によるこの弁論大会は、私たちネバダ日本商工会もサポートを続けているものです。

在サンフランシスコ総領事館からは渡邊信裕首席領事が出席され、審査員を務められました。

日本語弁論大会は、高校の部、大学の部、ヘリテージの部に分かれ、高校、大学はそれぞれレベル毎に審査が行われます。

スピーチは、「自己紹介」や「家族の紹介」、「旅行の思い出」などから自分の体験を交えた印象深いストーリーまで様々。時には笑いあり、涙ありの28のスピーチが発表されました。

アニメやJ-POP、どのようなきっかけであれ日本に興味を持ち始めている学生たちは、日本語を勉強することが自身の将来にどうつながっていくのか、どんな風に夢を広げていけるのかを考え始めているのがよくわかりました。

すべての発表が終わり、開始前の緊張した面持ちとは打って変わって満面の笑みの学生たち。

Introducing The 25th Japan-America Grassroots Summit in OITA in July

公益財団法人ジョン万次郎ホイットフィールド記念　国際草の根交流センターの事務局長・轟木洋子さんが日本から来米されてお会いしてきました。

この国際草の根交流センターは毎年、アメリカと日本の都市で交互に国際交流イベントを開催しているそうです。　今年は７月にアメリカから１週間の予定で大分県を訪れ、ホームステイ、観光などを体験し、文化交流をするそうです。　
学生から大人まで参加ＯＫだそうで、只今、参加者大募集中だそうです。

I met Ms. Hiroko Todoroki who is the Secretary General of John Manjiro Whitfield Commemorative Center for International Exchange.

This NPO aims to contribute to global peace and stability, by promoting the mutual understanding and friendship between citizens of Japan and America.

This summer, they will have the  25th Japan-America Grassroots Summit in Oita Prefecture.  Regardless of age, occupation, or language ability, anybody can join this summit.  Make your friends in Japan through homestay program.
